What have you done for me lately?

Here are some recent pics of the great food I've been eating. Now if I could just get off my fat ass and move around some!

11.19.07 - It's BLUE!

If you get sick of seeing my food, just say so. I'll probably ignore you, but you can say something.

Also, here's a quick tutorial I did on how to make Inarizushi. Fun and easy!

Shame me into posting

So okay, I LOOK at this site every day. I swear. But no urge to post. For shame.

Here are all my lunches for the past 2 weeks (not including this week): Photobucket Bento Album

I'm not going to go into great detail over my missed time. It should suffice to say that I think I've been eating pretty healthy/well. Home cooked breakfasts, lunches and most dinners. I really think spending more time cooking has actually helped me. I know this sounds crazy, but I'm actually taking time to think about what I'm eating. I'm taking joy in preparing foods instead of just "throwing something together." I haven't had a processed meal in the last 3 weeks. And the good news from my doctor's appointment yesterday....

I've lost 3 pounds!

That's with eating better and really minimal exercise. I've been walking about 20-25 minutes a few days a week. And the husband and I have been taking a Lindy Hop class once a week. That's it so far.

Yay!

Here's to starting over! (Again...)

Okay, so I am happy about being down 1.4 pounds since I started posting here... several weeks ago. = Slow progress, though, is better than no progress. Had hoped to be a little more slender with the tropical vacation (which means bathing suits) staring at me. But, it is what it is.

Food yesterday sucked, but I was decent about paying attention to Weight Watchers points. For breakfast I had a cranberry-orange muffin (11 ponits - good lord!), and a venti starbucks soy chai (8 points). Then I was depressed about having eaten 19 of my 21 daily points before 9:00am. (Shit.) So, around about 2pm, I was really getting hungry (reading the menu for lunch at The Orchard restaurant in Frederick did *not* help). Jariris said that "the vajayjay commanded me" to eat something. So, not wanting to enrage the vajayjay, I went to Teaism and got a Bento box (YAY for bento!)... tuna with roasted sweet potatos, sticky rice (oops, I ate it all), and some lightly steamed broccoli. For dinner, I had (no... not celery, which I should have) a mini bagel with Nutela (droool).

Today started off much better with homemade chai (2 pts), oj (.5 pt), a mini bagel with loc and neuhfachtel (2.5 pts), 1/2 c. of plain yogurt with some pomegranates (.5 pt). So, 5.5 points -- not bad.

Lunch today is a bunch of 0 point veggies (carrotts, celery, cucumber), sugar snap peas (.5 pt), an orange (1 pt), some left over Indian food I made this weekend with basmati rice (2.5 pts), 1/2 c. plain yogurt (.5 pt), grapes (1 pt), an apple (1 pt) for an afternoon snack. That's a very hearty 6.5 point lunch.

That leaves 9 points for the rest of the day, but I am not sure what I will have for dinner. Probably some leftover hamburger soup and toast... if the husband doesn't scarf it when he gets home from Chicago. (Plus, there's the 2 extra points I earned walking for 50 minutes in the rain this morning.)

Onward and upward... next week will be fish with rice and beans... and LOBSTER! and lots of exercise.

Wagon, what wagon

So it is a good thing I had this ass to land on when I fell off the wagon as well (L) The past week has sucked. I've tried to be good, but I was major pmsing and really when it came to chocolate vs no chocolate - the chocolate pwnd me. Also we kept having dinner and lunch dates and I kept totally forgetting that restaurants do have salads.

So starting over again today.
B: Coffee :)

Monday, October 29, 2007

Grr...

Okay, so I have been *totally* off the wagon for several days. In fact, ever since I started posting here. Hmmm....

Seriously, though, I am back in the swing of things today and going to be very serious, as my vacation and the requisite bathing suit/wetsuit in public experience is fast approaching. We won't revisit the past more than to day that I started the day yesterday at The Cheesecake Factory - I don't think you can get much more off course than that (wasn't my fault - we had brunch with Sam's family). Sigh.

This morning for breakfast I had a pot of black tea, orange juice, and a mini whole grain bagel with neufachtel cheese and smoked salmon. No fruit today (was too lazy to cut up the cantaloupe). On the train (bad girl), I had a homemade chai with soy milk.

Today's lunch includes a plethora of healthy goodies: 15 pumpernickle sticks, grapes, carrotts, celery, sugar snap peas, cucumber, apple, roast chicken thigh, and either a cup of chicken broth, or a can of Amy's alphabet soup.

Planning on probably some plain yogurt with strawberries and granola and some steamed broccoli for dinner tonight. If I am cold or particularly hungry, I might have some of the chicken noodle soup I made this weeked.... and, of course, some homemade zucchini bread for dessert. =D

Didn't weigh myself after the past 6 days of horrible habits, but I don't think I am too far from where I was last week. Onward to prgress!

By the way - am back in the swing of things (or at least getting there) with a 2.5 mile walk this morning with Toots. Should be able to get the 4 mile walks in again once we change the clocks next weekend.

Bento lunches

So I don't feel like dredging up whatever I ate this weekend. I'll say I tried to be good, and leave it at that.

One thing I DID do today is spend some time cooking and prepping stuff for box lunches this week. Soncara has agreed to let me inflict this new hobby on him. Here's the first pic:

That's homemade crabstick sushi rolls with cucumber, carrots & teriyaki mayo; grapes; potstickers; cherry tomatoes and star shaped cheese. Yay matching lunch!

Thursday, Thursday...

Still raining, dammit.

Breakfast: Some crazy no flour sprouted hooha wrap with a lettuce leaf, 1/4 (if that) tuna salad, 1 scrambled egg, 1 Tbsp. Cheddar Cheese, 3 cherry tomotoes. Tastier than advertised.
Lunch: 2 onigiri (no seaweed), miso soup, grapes, trail mix, 3 carrot sticks, 5 cherry tomatoes
Snack: Please! Keep me away from the snack machine! Bah, small bag of Cheetos.
Dinner: maybe sushi, I haven't been filled in on this evenings plans yet. As it turns out, we're going to Chili's. I'm going to have some sort of salad. I don't know what they have there.

Stardate - 10/24

It's almost my birthday! Does almost count?

B- leftover fried rice (see yesterday).
L- 2 onigiri, carrot sticks, 6 cherry tomatoes, wakame soup (seaweed), cantaloupe & grapes.
D - don't know, but I'm getting a massage tonight!
Snacks - I brought a small baggie of trailmix to nibble on throughout the day.

So dinner was a small tuna wrap and some sesame noodles when I got home. Then after the massage I went out with my friend R and had some "Zen Chicken Potstickers" and a Sangria. Reminder me never to go to T.G.I.Friday's again. Their food is the suck. Their drinks too.

But the massage was pretty okay - I've got another appointment next month.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Okay, so here I go...

Okay - weighed in this morning at 153.3. Not bad, but higher than I would like it to be, so I am joining forces with these two fine ladies to try and seriously do something about it.

My breakfast today (typically the same every day):
  • homemade chai - spices, a little honey, black tea, and 1 c. unsweetened soy milk
  • whole grain mini bagel with 1 oz. lox and neufachtel cheese
  • cantaloupe and strawberries

My walk this morning was very nice - I think that autumn leaves were meant to be seen in the light of a rose and salmon-colored sunrise... beautiful! Bailey (the best motivation ever for walking every day) and I went 3.5 miles in about 45 minutes in the park. It's a pretty decent workout, by most normal people's standards (never you mind silly joggers and workout freaks of the world).

My lunch today (typically the same, with minor variations, every day):

  • carrotts
  • celery
  • cucumber
  • applesauce cup
  • pear
  • 15 pumpernickle (sp?) sticks

I was bad and had a Starbuck's chai (with soy milk) for a snack this morning. Afternoon snack was a handful of trail mix with cashews, little chocolate chips, sundrops and raisins. I haven't been very good about water lately, but I *always* feel better when I am... so, I'd better get drinking!

By the way - someone needs to invent some kind of nose plug that eliminates the smell of a freshly-popped bag of popcorn in offices! Grrr....

Great Idea!

Okay - jariris invited me to join, so now you're stuck with me. I think this is an awesome idea - go team!

Weighed in.

So I weighed in today while at the doctor's for my appointment.

225.

Not as bad as I feared, but still NOT GOOD AT ALL.

My blood pressure is up, which is not good. I may be changing around my BC, maybe. I'm going to try to research what kind of diet helps promote good BP and try that out.

I've got another appointment in a couple of weeks, so I'll be talking to the dr. more in depth then.

It's Tuesday

It seems that most of the posts start with how lazy and unmotivated we are. Hah.

I have doctor appointment today. Just an annual, but I'm hoping to talk with him about my random pains and aches as well. And woohoo, they'll weigh me, so I'll report that.

Sunday:
Breakfast: I have no recollection. I think it was a bowl of cereal, Cheerios and Soy Milk.
Lunch: Grilled Tuna Pita at the festival. It was really delicious. All okay I think, except for the Parmesan sauce...but there wasn't that much of it.
Dinner: Chinese take-out, mixed vegetables, 1.5 Cups and hot & sour soup 1 Cup.
At the bar: 3 ciders and a couple of nibbles from the artichoke and spinach dip. And the band was GREAT!

Monday:
Breakfast: Leftover hot & sour soup, 1 Cup.
Snack: 2 packs of Nature Valley Oatbars, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Lunch: Veggie Lasagna frozen meal, it was pretty tasty. Although obviously I was hungry 2 hours later.
Dinner: Leftover mixed vegetables, 1 Cup and brown rice, 1 Cup.

It's Tuesday:
Breakfast: 3/4 Cup of sesame noodles with peas and mushrooms, 3 Tbsp Trail Mix
Lunch: I boxed it...homemade fried rice with peas, tomatoes, scrambled egg and brown rice, carrot sticks (3), cherry tomatoes (5), grapes & cantaloupe, 3 Tbsp Trail Mix
Dinner: don't know yet, maybe Outback something since I've got a hair appt. after work...

FYI, Tim Gunn makes me smile. That is all.

Sunny Saturday

Today has been gorgeous. Too bad I spent it working. At least I was outside. I was at the Stockley Gardens Arts Festival in Norfolk. Lots of really beautiful artwork that I couldn't afford. Ah well.

Took the bento lunch with me. I'm so proud. I'm spending a good chunk of time making these lunches, which is nice. But I'd be happy if I could streamline it a little bit more.

Breakfast - 1 onigiri (rice ball stuffed with tuna salad, wrapped in nori).

Lunch - 3 onigiri, cantaloupe and grapes, 6 Tbsp trail mix.

Dinner - Taco Bell Grilled Stuffed Taco w/beef, nachos and cheese sauce, diet pepsi.

Bento Baby!

Breakfast: 1Cup of Pork Teriyaki Stir Fry with zuchini, onion, and cabbage.

Snack: Nature Valley Bar.

Lunch: Woohoo Bento! Actually, I don't know if I can really call it a bento, but it was a start. Pork Teriyaki Stir Fry (see above) with 2.5 rice balls (shaped like stars, no less!), Wakeme Soup (seaweed), Cantalope pieces with grapes. I'm stuffed!

Dinner: It's going to be at the hockey game, so I know it won't be good for me and there will be at least one beer involved. Hmm...

Speaking of Slippery....

I made breakfast for dinner and cooked some bacon in the microwave. I totally didn't pay attn to how long it had been sitting there, or not sitting there as was the case. And when I took the plate out of the microwave I immediately tried to drop it and sloshed bacon juice all over the floor. The dogs thought it was Christmas.

So today:
B: PB & B Sandwich (yes it is a trend.. until I run out of bananas)
L: umm I don't remember and it was only 10 hours ago.
Dinner: Pancakes, 1 pc scrapple, 2 eggs, 2 pc bacon.

Snack: 2 sticks of fake crab meat. No fat and fishy breath as a fun little perk.

Friday, you slippery bitch, get over here!

Blowing it for lunch...

Breakfast: one fried egg, one piece of toast, small bunch of grapes.
Snack: Nature Valley Oat Bar.
Lunch: Pizza, slices, 4.

Good news though - I bought some tennis shoes last night, wearing them today. They feel good (which is a nice change for me) and I plan to go to the gym after work. Yay!

Being motivational

I guess our motivation is supposed to come from umm well I don't know where. I guess making ourselves do the blog thing at least starts the whole self discipline process. Mmm discipline. Oh wait..

Today
B: Coffee, PB & Banana Sandwich
L: Coffee, 100 cal oatmeal bar, left over tortellini, apple

Look, finally, a post.

I have been such a freaking slacker that it's not even funny. This blog was 1/2 my idea, and I can't get my shit together enough to post? Damn.

So, let's see how far back I can cast my memory.

I had Seared Ahi Tuna appetizer, cup of corn chowder with crab, Steamed veggies with Shrimp & Scallops, seared with Mango Salsa. Oh, and a Mango Sangria.

Tuesday: Breakfast - 2 Egg Sandwich with about a Tbsp. of shredded cheddar cheese, Snack - Bagel with cream cheese (Which I heartily regret) Lunch - Slice of Salami Sandwich with cheese, Wilty Salad with marinated mushrooms & artichoke hearts, some kind of weird desserty thing (What can I say, it was catered.) Dinner - one Hamburger Patty with mustard and some Japanese Rice snacks

Wednesday: Breakfast - 1 Fried Egg with 1 slice of Toast; Snack - Nature Valley Oat Bar; Lunch - Kashi Sweet & Sour Chicken (good, but I'm already hungry); I did good and waited until I got home. I had some rice snacks and now I'm heading off for a sushi dinner. Yay!

Wait, what?

WHERE IS MY MOTIVATION?!

Not so regular.

So I was going to try and post every day and for a couple days I was. And then the crazy busy weekend from Hell happened and I had McD twice in one weekend. Which is usually more than I eat it in a month. Yard sale weekends blow any diet to bits because I'm so starving that when someone drops food off I don't really care what it is. The rest of the weekend wasn't too bad: various vegetables, a turkey sandwich, sliced cheese and pita crackers, LOTS OF WATER!!!, and an ice cream cone. Ok so the rest of the weekend wasn't great but it was better than fast food. And there were major amounts of exercise as I hauled 3 van loads of crap in and out of the house or garage about 10 times in the past 4 days. I'll try to be better this week :)

Monday, Monday, 10/8

So I had a weekend away from home. I’d say I was more or less good. Or at least thoughtful about what I was eating and drinking. And I only had one beer at the bonfire on Saturday night.

This morning I had an egg and veggie wrap with cheese and a touch of mayo. These organic wraps I picked up are so fabulous.

Lunch, which I’m eating right now, is a Lean Cuisine Meal, Chicken Carbonara. It’s tasty enough. Snack today is a Nature Valley bar.

I’m not sure what dinner is going to be – other than chicken. We’ll see.

Oh, and the most exciting news about this weekend…the Beautiful Miss Buck has just given birth to a Beautiful Baby Boy. Welcome Ian!

Friday, October 5, 2007

Does this blog make my butt look big?

Breakfast was a phenomenal wrap stuffed with zucchini, tomato, onion and egg. With about ½ Tbsp of Shredded cheese and lettuce. Yum!

I’m going to eat junk food for lunch as I wend my way out of town and home to the parent’s house. I’ll make up for it by eating something green for dinner.

I NEED TO EXERCISE!

Thursday, October 4, 2007

Thursday is the loneliest day

Breakfast was leftovers from dinner, but only about a Cup and a half worth. The snack is going to be another Nature Valley granola bar pack.
And now we’ll see how well I do eating healthy and at home while the boy is gone for a month.

Lunch was another Lean Cuisine meal - Butternut Squash Ravioli and veggies, it really is one of my favorites.

Bag of popcorn for a snack, lite butter. I really don't think I like this kind of popcorn.

But dinner! Ah, dinner...sashimi deluxe. Bliss. It was 3 slices of 4 different kinds of fish with ginger and soy sauce on the side. No rice. Oh, and a bowl of really thick miso soup. It was all heavenly.

Now I'm watching a subtitled Indian movie, Water, I'd better pay attention.

Mmm beer.

Yeah... kinda regretting the beer last night. But it was fun. I hadn't had more than 1/2 a beer or a couple sips of someone else's drink for a long time. I'm thinking that instead of posting my weight every morning because it is going to be too up down up down that I'll post it once a week. If I end up cheating too much because " I don't have to get on the scale for another 2 days.. I can make up this brownie, etc) then I will go to once a day weighing.

Dinner last night was covered in the gravy from the chicken drippings but I don't care it was lovely and I ate it all. I was good the rest of the day and damn it I wanted messy food. And now I'm on a quest to find a cheese that tastes good with squash. What ever I pulled out of the fridge last night was not it. The squash was good though, I love this time of year. Especially because I get comments like "ooh are we having more crazy squash again?" And by crazy he means : Not standard yellow summer squash that turns to slime when most people cook it. I love under cooking vegetables and getting the surprised look on his face of "Hey, I used to hate this stuff".

But back to the goals for today. I need to package up another stroller. Yes I am insane and that should be good for about 20 min of calorie burning frustration topped with lugging it to the Post Office.

Wednesday - HUMP DAY

Whew – not feeling shiny today. But in spite of that, or maybe because of it, I’m eating okay today. Cheerios and soy milk for breakfast. Loads of water and a Nature Valley Oat & Honey bar for a snack.

Now what to do for lunch? I’m ravenous after the staff meeting at work, but I don’t know what I actually want to eat...

As it happens, I went to my favorite Vietnamese noodle shop for lunch and had the veggie egg noodle soup. Yum! I have no idea how many calories, etc. But I'm feeling good because it was loaded with the vegetables.

Dinner: something from a cookbook called Greek Skillet in a Pita. It was lamb, tomatoes, chickpeas, onion, celery, zuchini, In a pita. With some plain yogurt & hummus. The corn I bought was totally awful, so I had about a half an ear of it.

Oh, and a beer.

No exercise on the horizon today.

Wed 10/3 ...

So today I post my weight... eew. My scale says I am 217, up from 180 2 years ago. I am having lots of fun guilt over the fact that my heart condition wouldn't be as bad had I limited the Doritos diving. That and the fact that I think I weigh more than a pregnant friend. So today the goal is to take 15 minutes for myself and stretch (will have to lock up the dogs). So far the intake has been !!!coffee!!! My usual breakfast also includes a banana.

Tuesday, October 2, 2007

It's Tuesday, 10/2...

So I’ll get to the gym in a day or two to see where things stand with the weigh in. I figured in the mean time I could still get this food diary thing started.

Lunch: Lean Cuisine Salisbury Steak with Mac & Cheese. Only 280 calories. I hate how high the sodium is on these microwave meals. But only 9 grams of fat, so I guess it’s a bit of a toss up. I’m a little upset that there weren’t any veggies hidden in here, but I’m going to make up for that with all the green on my dinner tonight.

Snack: Barbara’s Crunchy Organic Granola Bars. IT was 190 calories for the 2 bars in the serving. Kind of tasty, kind of not, but this was the last package in the box, so it’s really irrelevant now. Only 1 gram of fat though.

Exercise: Walked for about 10 minutes with Anna after lunch. Not great, but hey, it’s a start. I’m also going to be hoisting and moving a small sailboat tonight – that’s got to count for something.

Dinner: Okay, I wussed out. Things ran late after work, too late to cook, IMO. So we went to Qdoba for dinner. Rice, beans, yummy. And apparently, "fresher means healthier." I got the Ancho Chili BBQ Burrito, naked. Slop in a bowl. But, it was tasty slop. So there you go.

More goodness tomorrow!

Onward and Downward

Well it was this or duct tape the fridge and I think I'm supposed to cook dinner as one of those wifely duties so blogging it is. So far today I've had 2 cups of coffee and sat on my @ss all morning packing boxes for the first Post Office run of the day. Hmmm, not a stellar start.

So we're getting started

In order to form a more better us...Roses and I are committing to blog about our attempts, successes and failures in weight loss.

Each day (or most days, as it happens) we will log a food diary for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. We will also keep track of our exercise each day.

This will be the place where we motivate each other, whine about our momentary set-backs , and cheer each other's success.

Go us!
